The Snake Plant (Sansevieria), also known as Mother-in-Law's Tongue, is a popular houseplant. One of the most notable benefits of this plant is its ability to purify the air in its surroundings. The Snake Plant is particularly effective at removing toxins such as formaldehyde, benzene, and trichloroethylene from the air. Exposure to these toxins over time can have negative effects on human health, including respiratory issues, headaches, and dizziness. The Snake Plant works by absorbing these toxins through its leaves and converting them into oxygen. This process is known as phytoremediation, which is the use of plants to clean up pollutants in the environment.

Snake plants prefer bright, indirect light, but can also tolerate low light conditions. Avoid placing them in direct sunlight as it can scorch their leaves. Snake plants are drought-tolerant and can go long periods without water. Water them once every +- 4 weeks. Ensure you completely saturate the soil when you do.
